A blue crab claw fills the irregular surface of a single historic pottery fragment, its deep blues and flashes of red following the shard’s naturally tapered form. The painting allows the shape of the broken stoneware to determine the image, transforming an object recovered from the shoreline into another familiar remnant of life along Mobile Bay.
